Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a steeple or cupola cost?

All of our products are custom built to fit your project, therefore, we need certain basic information before we can give you a “ball park figure” or an exact price quote. This basic information includes:

1) Style - Choose from our in-house drawings or send us your own design.

2) Dimensions - Height & width.

3) Cross, Ball & Finial – A basic cross or ball and finial is included in our basic price. Custom crosses or other structures in any size or style can be built to fit your needs and included in your pricing.

4) Exterior Materials – .032 inch aluminum sheeting coated with KYNAR 500® is the standard exterior. However, other thicknesses are available, as are other metal choices such as copper, lead-coated copper, micro-zinc etc.

5) Engineering and Shop Drawings – A basic price quote includes shop drawings stamped by a Utah engineer. However, some municipalities or agencies will also require an engineering stamp from your state. In some instances, this expense is in addition to our basic pricing. Special job-site engineering inspections are also not included.

6) Freight and Installation – A basic price quote includes delivery and installation of our product. Factors such as location, distance, time, and manpower are considered. If requested, installation can be deferred to your general contractor.

7) Crane or Lift – Required crane or lift service is arranged locally by the general contractor. Weight and reach determine the crane size required. This cost is in addition to and not included in our basic price.

8) Lightning Cable – For steeples or cupolas over six feet in height, our basic price includes a lightning cable from the finial or peak to the roofline. Cost to complete and ground the lightning cable by a licensed electrician is arranged locally by you or your general contractor. This cost is not included in our basic price.

9) Local Requirements – Unknown items such as: permit fees, license fees, inspection fees, union workers, barricading, traffic control, roof or truss upgrades are not included in our basic price.

How much does a steeple or cupola weigh?

Factors such as style, material, height and width all combine to determine steeple and cupola weight. When providing a price quote we can also include the approximate weight of the raw materials used in the construction process.

How long will it take to build my steeple or cupola?

Once the required engineering and shop drawings have been completed and approved, your custom steeple or cupola is submitted sequentially to the manufacturing plant. We then will work closely with you to meet your project construction goal deadlines.

What are your requirements before my steeple or cupola project can be started?

Once Munns Manufacturing has been awarded a project, we require the following before it is submitted for engineering and shop drawings:

1. Signed contract or purchase order.

2. 10% down or negotiated payment terms.

3. Plans to scale or picture of elevation(s) with dimensions.

4. Specifications.

5. Colors and finish – standard or custom; smooth or embossed.

What colors are available and can my steeple or cupola be designed with more than one color?

Aluminum painted with KYNAR®500 comes in a wide variety of color choices with either a smooth or an embossed finish. Custom colors are available, but more expensive than the standard colors. You can design your steeple or cupola with more than one color.

What height steeple or cupola should I put on my building?

Two methods to help you consider the appropriate heights are:

1. Length of roof ridgeline times 1.5, divide by 12, and convert to feet equals cupola height.

2. Distance from ground level to roof ridgeline equals minimum steeple height. Times by 1.5 equal average height. Times 2.0 equal maximum height.

What are the advantages of an aluminum product vs. a fiberglass product? What warranties are available?

An aluminum product is lighter in weight, has greater durability, will not “breakdown” in extreme weather conditions, and has little or no required maintenance. KYNAR® factory-finished metals come with a twenty-year warranty from the manufacturer. Munns Manufacturing also offers a ten-year warranty on craftsmanship and a limited life-time warranty on interior structures.
